Installation of new LED lights

The future’s bright with a Leader Grant from the New Rural Development Programme for England

We are completing the installation of LED lights into our second propagation greenhouse, to enable us to expand the weaning of tissue culture plants throughout the winter, with a capacity of 200,000 plants under lights as any one time.

Apart from enabling us to increase the production of Agapanthus in particular, this has also allowed us to retain more members of the team on a year round basis ensuring we keep and develop our skills base.

The facility has been developed with Agapanthus production in mind but can be used for the weaning of a wide range of plants depending on the demands of the market.

The LED lights allow us to economically extend the growing day to 14 hours and improve the quality of the plants by providing the right spectrum and intensity of light.  Having previously used 2 Dutch lighting suppliers we are pleased to have given this project to Indo lighting a Southampton based company.

We are fortunate to have been awarded a LEADER grant from the Rural Development Programme for England to enable this project to proceed.  The application was approved by the New Forest Local Action Group (LAG) and the New Forest District Council is overseeing the work.
